Mellow Fruitfulness

Mellow Fruitfulness is a season in russet, bark and plum, chosen for things that improve with use. Boots gather mud, brass warms, wool softens at the elbow. Nothing here stays pristine for long, and that is the point. Wear the cardigan to the kitchen table, the boots to the lane, and the plum on the way home.

The walk-through

I'm Emily, and this is Exhibition three: Mellow Fruitfulness. Keats on a long walk. Russet, bark, plum, and nothing precious. These are things chosen because they improve with use, so let's walk through them, starting with the layers.

Number one. Cotton corduroy in army olive, near enough to moss. Wear it open over oat knitwear.

Number two. Wool and cashmere in oatmeal cream. Made to go under, over and through October.

Number three. All-over cable knit in ink navy, the one dark note here. Pair it with russet.

Number four. Brown suede, bark-coloured, with pull-tabs. It's the splurge, and it's ready for wet leaves.

Number five. Scottish wool in tartan, edges frayed. It'll look better after one wet walk than before.

Number six, from the Still Room. Fig over sandalwood: the orchard at dusk, once the grass has gone damp.

Number seven. A plum stain for long walks, staying put like blackberry juice on a thumb. Twenty-two dollars.

And number eight. Wool-blend zigzag with fringes. Spread it on the grass, then over your knees.

That's the walk, but there's more on the walls. See the full exhibition, every object, on Shopience. Wear the cardigan to the kitchen table, the plum on the way home.
